NC State Football 2012

Well, College Football has arrived and through the weekend, college football teams have came out to show off what they have been working on during the off season. Some improved, and some down-right did horrible.

NC State faced Tennessee Friday August 31, 2012. NC State came in with a highly ranked secondary, but if you watched the game then you noticed that the over-hyped secondary did not show up when the team needed it too. The All-American David Amerson was out-runned and out-played by UT. As for Mike Glennon, building from a 3000+ yard season, had a lot of trouble also. He ended the game 27/46, 288 passing yards and 4 interceptions. He got sack twice. He also didn't show up to the game. I was really impressed by Mustafa Greene, since he did not play last season due to injury.

Some people will see it as, UT became extremely better during the off-season and it should've been expected from an SEC team with a National Championship under its belt. Others might see it as the Wolfpack just weren't prepared. They underestimated UT, basing their judgement on last seasons record. Either way, UT is in the SEC and they are a SEC caliber team. If the Wolfpack wants to define itself as a football power, then they need to quit letting important games slip away. Winning against UT would've set the pace for the rest of the season.

Now onto Wolfpacks head coach, Tom O'Brien. Will this season determine whether he stays or goes? Is beating UNC enough to keep his job? Well, from what I know about Debbie Yow, NCSU's AD, is that she wants to win. You see how she gave Sidney Lowe a redemption year, and he couldn't live up to her standards and he was fired. Is this Tom 'O Brien's redemption year? We will see.

NC State faces UConn on Saturday September 8th, 2012.

Go WolfPack!

NC State, Belk Bowl Champs!

I know, I know... this is long over due, but NC State is once again a bowl champion. It was an awesome battle between the Cardinals and the Wolfpack.
Both teams had their own strengths coming into the game, but the Wolfpack figured out a way to pull out a win against them pesky Cardinals. I was one of the lucky ones who were close enough to the field to feel the heat given off the heated benches. The only problem I had with the game was that the Wolfpack had a 21-10 lead at the half and then scored 10 more points in the 3rd quarter making the score 31-17. We did not score at all in the 4th, and they made me worry through the quarter. David Amerson ended his season with 13 interceptions, the most in the FBS. To me, he should've been the MVP, but for some reason, they always give it to the QB. Amerson got 2 interceptions in the game, both solidifying the victory for the Wolfpack. Anyways, the Belk Bowl, was one of the best games that I went to, and I will forever remember it.

NC State Bowl Bound

Today, NC State have played the best I have seen them play in a LONG time. They upset #7 Clemson Tigers in a 37-13 bowl battle. Where was this team at during the whole season? I have came to a conclusion that when NC State really needs to win a game, they most likely win. When they need a win, they play with heart, and they are more focused than ever. This showed up in the win tonight against Clemson and also a win against our in-state rival UNC. NC State has the talent, no question about that, but they need to play with the same heart and determination as they did tonight. There is no telling what they could do if they did. Now all that is left to become bowl eleigble is to win against Maryland.

If the Pack can win next Saturday, the same way they won today, then they are sure to have a post season game. Getting to a  bowl game is not about having enough wins, but how you won during those six games (or more). I believe NC State can do that. There is some doubt though. NC State did lose to Boston College. They were 1-5 before they beat us. I guess we thought we could get an easy win, but Boston College also played with heart to defeat us. Like I said earlier, if you play with heart and determination, there is always a chance to win. The Wolfpack are looking towards Maryland for their final game of the season and a chance to become bowl eligible. Maryland is not having the greatest year, but there is still a chance that they can come out with a win, just like BC did a week ago.

All in all, the game against Maryland is going to be intense. The Wolfpack needs to do EXACTLY the same thing that they did against Clemson tonight. Only then, we can become bowl eligible and a better chance in getting an invitation to a bowl game. Go Wolfpack!!!

NC State and Wisconsin, Glennon and Wilson

Okay, so the whole nation knows that Russell Wilson was released from NC State before summer started, and then went on to play his last year over at Wisconsin. But, is playing schools that aren't in conferences that have automatic bowl bids a foundation to Russell Wilson's excellent start as a quarterback? Well, today will be the big test when #7 Wisconsin hosts #8 Nebraska. If he is as good as the media says he is, then he will do great in this game. I have no doubts that Russell Wilson has the talent and drive to lead a team to victory, but I believe the true test rests in this game.

As for NC State, they have been terrible this season without, the now famous, Russell Wilson. Even with a quarterback that was in the top 5 out of high school, they still haven't found their groove. The loss against a 2010 3-9 record Wake Forest should have woken them up, but it didn't when they played an embarrassing game against Cincinnati. Many of you do not know that Glennon was going to be the starting quarterback three years ago, but after the first game, he got injured and Wilson stepped up to the plate. Ever since then, Tom O'Brien started with Wilson in every game and he did wonders, while Glennon watched on the sidelines. Now that Glennon has his chance (four chances actually) he continues to not be the leader of the team. Once he establishes that and communicates well, he will become a very good quarterback. But from the last four games, it is still the same, with little improvement. Today, against #21 Georgia Tech, it will show Glennon's true colors and his true talent as a quarterback. This will also be a chance for Tom O' Brien to back up his decision to let Wilson go.

As a student and fan of NCSU, I will support my WOLFPACK through thick and thin. I will root for Wisconsin because one of our own is leading their team. GO WOLFPACK and Badgers!
